It was June of 1979 in Salisbury, Maryland when Edward Dickerson Sr. received the first call for insurance coverage in his newly started Surplus Lines Insurance brokerage firm named “Tri-State General Insurance Agency”. The agency was started with a total cash investment of $3,500 and a promise of support from several retail agencies and the London Company market. Tri-State has grown each and every year since the date of its inception because of the commitment to service and the support of many retail agencies that we proudly call customers.

We have experienced many changing market cycles over the years. We have seen the choice of communications change from Twix machines, to Telex machines, to Fax machines, and ultimately to the E-mail utilized today. We have gone from a paper insurance agency world to a completely paperless environment. Even with these technology changes, our focus is still on building strong relationships with both our company and agency partners.

Ed Dickerson Sr. retired from the agency in 2001 and passed the reigns of the agency on to the current management. You have our commitment to continue the vision of our founder. As stated in our mission statement we will continue to strive to be the “FRIENDLIEST AND MOST PROFESSIONAL SURPLUS LINES AGENCY IN OUR TERRITORIES OF OPERATION.”
